Our Puppies

Our beautiful Bellatese puppies are bred ethically and thrive in our care. We make every effort to get to know our puppy’s new human family and enjoy continued contact throughout their life to ensure our puppy is a valued member of your family.

Bellatese provides our puppy buyers with complete, accurate health records for the puppies.

We look after our puppies until they are a minimum of eleven weeks of age and where possible we can arrange for you to visit the puppy in our home. We ensure our puppies are exposed to other animals, new people, children and noises.

We would highly recommend buyers participate in puppy socialization and/or basic obedience classes and can provide you with recommendations.

If you are interested in purchasing a puppy through us, please call and register your interest and we can let you know when we are expecting.

Buying a Maltese Puppy

If you are on my website reading this, you are obviously thinking about bringing a puppy in to your lives.

This is obviously a very exciting time for you, and to help you make the right choice in choosing your puppy, I have listed a few things as “food for thought”

Is Now The Right Time to Bring a Puppy Home?

The idea of having a puppy in the home is one that is filled with images of very cute and cuddly puppies, soft wet noses, and unconditional love and devotion from a four-legged friend.

The reality can be somewhat starkly different!  Not that I am in any way trying to put you off this idea, but lets also factor in a few “not so desirable” ideas such as:

  • toilet training; accidents in the most inconvenient place and time;
  • chewing while those little razor sharp teeth come through – your favourite shoes, Oh dear;
  • and the issue of getting through the first few days/night of sleep deprivation, while they come to terms with being away from their litter mates.

If this hasn’t put you off, then its time to get serious!

The biggest question you then need to ask yourself, is, do I have the time to devote to training and spending time with this puppy, in order for it to turn in to a beautiful, well trained dog for the rest of its wonderful life!

If the answer is yes, then fantastic – you are in for the time of your life!!

Is A Maltese The Right Choice of Dog?

I of course am very biased in the answer to this question, because I believe the Maltese is the most beautiful of the toy breed.

This doesn’t mean that they are not without challenges.  They are a very lively and intelligent little dog, which looks incredibly angelic and demure but can display a will of iron and need a firm hand in training.

They are devoted to their owner, and need good socialisation as puppies to develop into well-rounded adults.  They need to be trained to enjoy being on their own or they will expect their human to be on hand at all time, to do whatever bidding they require.

Maltese need to be handled with some care as puppies because they will be not more than about 1.3 to 1.5kgs when they some home to you.  If you have small children, this could be a recipe for disaster.

The Maltese is fairly demanding in terms of grooming requirements.  Even as a puppy/dog who is going to be clipped regularly, there will still be a need to keep the coat free of matts and daily combing is recommended, and is regular bathing.

If, after all of this, you still feel that the Maltese is the breed for you, then I would be delighted to talk to you about welcoming a puppy in to your home.
